If your car hesitates to start when the engine is warm or cold, that’s a strong symptom you could be facing a bad engine coolant temperature sensor. The MAF sensor or a bad camshaft position sensor could also cause starting issues. 3. Bad Battery/Connection. The car battery provides the voltage needed to crank the engine over and get it
I've only driven a manual with stop-start a few times (in the UK) but AFAIK the engine only stops when the gear is in neutral and the clutch pedal is up. At red lights etc, pressing the clutch to select a gear restarts the engine. Holding the clutch down keeps the engine running.
Wrench. Step 1: Locate the spark plugs. Access the coil pack in order to test it. Turn off the car's engine and open the hood. Locate the spark plugs and follow the spark plug wires until you locate the coil pack. Remove the spark plug wires and label them to make it easy to install them again.
Your Engine Control Unit uses signals from the engine sensors to control how the engine runs, when the spark plugs fire to ignite the fuel, and to turn the fuel injection parts on and off at the correct time. If the ECU goes bad due to an internal issue or a power surge, it may stop working or start controlling engine functions at the wrong time.
3. Engine won’t start or fails. A broken timing chain will cause an engine to not start or fail while driving. If the belt is already broken, the engine won’t have enough compression to start. If it breaks or jumps while driving, the pistons will be damaged from contact with the valves. The valves themselves will bend and potentially ruin
Another feature with the Subie stop start is that it only activates if you press hard on the brake pedal. If you feather the brakes the car stays running. And no it is not hooked up to the brake lights. You need to depress the brake pedal with some authority to get it to stop the engine.
A loud whirring or grinding noise from the front of the engine. This is caused by the camshaft and valvetrain no longer moving in time with the crankshaft. Lack of normal engine sounds that indicate proper compression (no fast clicking or whooshing air sounds). The battery and electronics work fine, but the engine won’t start up and run.
If the metal wire inside the plastic casing is severed or damaged, a blown fuse is preventing power from reaching the starter relay or solenoid. You may need a fuse puller to remove the correct fuse and a light source to see its internal components. If the fuses are in good shape, the car's ignition switch is faulty.
